Today, Chesil had a visit from Marie from Animals2U South West! Marie brought in 4 animals from different habitats around the world. They were Milly the millipede, Skippy the tree frog, Mikey the corn snake and Faye the polecat. She taught us lots about these animals, like where they live and what they eat and then everyone got to touch or hold the animals if they wanted! All the children showed our value of respect towards the animals and listened very carefully!

Bridport Community Fair is this weekend, so Monmouth class have been preparing forest school creations to raise money for Loders forest school. The children worked incredibly hard to make mindfulness rocks, gods eyes, journey sticks and pencils! We are really excited to hear how they do at the fair! Come and see the Primary Forest School stand to donate and choose your forest school creation to take home!

Forest School VE Day Celebration! Yesterday Monmouth class began the lesson with a tactical teamwork game called Capture the Flag followed by an attention and endurance game called Survivor. The remaining of the session Monmouth class had the choice of making bunting, a traditional VE Day decoration; flags using calico, pens and a stick; and rafts as this was a mode of transport that would’ve been used during the war. We even tested the rafts to see if they would float on water. Lots of them were successful but some unfortunately capsized!

Chesil class had lots of fun this week, drawing outside in the sunshine as part of their art lesson! The children chose different natural objects, such as leaves or flowers and worked carefully to use different types of line and shape to draw what was in front of them. They all showed great patience and observation skills!

Yesterday eco club focused on the willow den. We’ve practised weaving the willow back into the structure to create shade and a structure for children to relax in during break time and forest school. Monmouth class enjoyed a warm and sunny session focusing on habitats. They investigated, identified and improved the habitats at the forest school site. One group build a habitat for a bat while another built a habitat for a badger. As you can imagine these were very different and the groups thought about lots of different aspects including sleeping area, food and protection. Monmouth class have ‘adopted a spot’ within the forest school to care for at the end of each session. Ask your child which spot they’ve adopted!

In class on Tuesday, Monmouth was making bottle torches. First, they each had to make a circuit with a switch that would light up a bulb! Putting it all together was a little tricky, but they worked fantastically hard, followed instructions and helped each other with any issues that arose. Great job Monmouth!

Yesterday eco club continued their hard work clearing the sticks and developing the site. Chesil and Little Acorns enjoyed an Easter and fire session with egg hunt and hot cross buns toasted on the campfire – Yum! After school club requested den building and pizzas for their last session, what a great idea! In Monmouth this half term we have been learning all about sound. We have been discovering how sounds are made and how they travel. We have been having lots of investigating fun!

Stick, Stick, Sticky, Stick… Stick, Stick Stick. (Anyone with young children will sing this in their head - thank hey duggee!) Yesterday Eco Club chopped sticks for firewood and den building stick using loppers. Chesil and Caterpillars made stick creations using Stanley’s Stick story as inspiration and After School Club made pencils from a stick. So many uses for sticks in just one afternoon!

Last week, Chesil had lots of fun making different 3D paper shapes in DT. They made cylinders, cuboids and prisms and then tested which shape was strongest by seeing which shape held the most books before collapsing! We found out that the cylinder is the strongest. Today, they used their learning of shapes to design a new building.
